Things to do in Rome

The St Peter's Square, which is placed at the Vatican State's entrance, is actually circular in shape and is bordered by two giant colonnades. These colonnades are ornamented with stunning sculptures of numerous holy figures and former popes. The centerpiece is a colossal obelisk that was salvaged from Nero's Circus and seems more Egyptian than Roman. A pair of chairs is typically set up in front of the iconic St. Peter's Basilica, which is located at the far end of the plaza, for papal events. The temples of the Arch of Severus, Saturn, Vesta, and Titus as well, existed here together with other temples, squares, and arches. Many of these constructions are still standing today, and parts of the arches, building foundations, and walls may still be seen.

The Trevi Fountain, designed by Nicola Salvi in 1762, pays homage to the Roman God Oceanus, who can be shown riding his chariot drawn by Tritons and taming many Hippocampus.
